What an incredible site! This large block was situated directly above the stunningly beautiful Newport reef, or “Cross-waves” as it’s locally known. The existing house was a 1970’s beach house. The brief from the clients and architect was to bring it forward into the 21st century whilst keeping it’s simplistic surf-side charm.
Once again, out came the excavators to carve from the rock a new space for an extra ground floor bedroom and en-suite. We then extended the front of the house three meters to create a massive new open plan upstairs living/dining room with absolutely incredible views North over the ocean. Virtually no wall was left untouched throughout the house. A stunning new kitchen, new laundry, two new en-suite bathrooms and fireplace/TV entertainment wall that is the centrepiece of the living room. It’s now the perfect space for the family to curl up on the couch in front of the fire and watch a movie or just kick back with a wine and gaze out the massive windows to watch the whales swim by. As you can see from the photos, the end result is a testament to the skill and care that the team took to create this dream interior.
The inside was only just the beginning for this project. For the outside, landscape architect Peta Gilliland, created a beautiful design by tiering the site to get maximum use of the sloping block. With some careful set out, special attention to drainage and our expert excavation team we laid over 220 half tonne sandstone blocks! The result was to create some beautiful new garden beds, a top level for the vegie patch and custom made vintage clothesline up the backyard. For the front yard, a large new lawn area for the dog and the grandkids in the years to come. Everyone agreed, it all looks amazing!
